For all that makes us different from one another, we share in this sacrament that Christ gave us as a means of grace that helps us remember who we are as the Body of Christ. On this Sunday, we remember that we are connected to one another in the family of God through Jesus Christ and that we all come to the Table to share in this Holy Meal as but a taste of the heavenly banquet we all will share in the presence of God.   • Faith
    Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! John 8:24 unless you believe that I am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.
    Hope
    Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Jeremiah 29: 11 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
    Love
    1 Corinthians 13:4-5: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13: 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Prayer

Loving God, we pray for the well-being of your creation. The lands are parched or flooded, the air is thick with imbalance, the waters are warming and rising. We have neglected our role as stewards of creation, and we feel powerless to make a difference. And so, we lift the earth to you, and we cry out for your love to inspire and empower us to tend your creation, our home.

General Conference News During the 10 days of General Conference, delegates:

• adopted regionalization legislation,

• approved legislation that will remove restrictive, prohibitive language from The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church,

• adopted legislation that will grant Deacons authority to preside at sacraments,

• approved legislation to reduce the number of active bishops in the United States,

• adopted a reduced budget for the 2025-2028 quadrennium,

• approved legislation to change the clergy retirement plan,

• adopted climate justice legislation,

• and much more.

United Women in Faith In October, we will meet at 6:00 pm at Magoo's in New Philadelphia for a "Ladies' Night Out". We will also be hosting the South Forest District for their Fall Meeting on October 6th, beginning at 2:30. The speaker is Reverend Gary Jones, camps & retreats director for the South Forest District. All women of the church and their guests are welcome. Seniors Lunches Our October lunch will be at noon at Dutch Valley Restaurant in Sugarcreek. All members are welcome to enjoy a time of food, fun & fellowship. Reverend Steve Smith will be back with us on October 6th and 13th. October 6th is World Communion Sunday.

Pastor John Armstrong
Otterbein United Methodist Church is excited to be welcoming Pastor John Armstrong, beginning on November 1st, 2024. Pastor John is familiar with our local area, having graduated from Indian Valley High School. Until recently, he has served at Plainfield and Orange United Methodist churches. We are looking forward to this new chapter in our journey with Christ.

Who we are:
Otterbein United Methodist Church is open to everyone. We worship at 10:30am Sunday mornings. Dress is casual. Our mission is to serve others. "I've never been to a more welcoming and caring church." The service is available to those attending church, sitting in the parking lot listening to their car radio on 88.1FM, or on Facebook or You Tube.
